Jesus
said, “Let the children come to me and do not hinder them; for to such belongs
the kingdom of God. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of
God lie a child shall not enter it.”
Luke 18:15-17
Sacrament Preparation
Dear Parents, thank you for all you have done and continue
to do in the faith formation of your child.
You presented your child to be Baptized, faithfully brought
your child to Mass, and taught your child how to pray. You have also made it
possible for your child to participate in our program of religious education.
All of these together form the necessary foundation for
sacrament preparation and we are grateful for the opportunity to work with you
in deepening your child’s relationship with Jesus Christ in the Sacraments of
Penance and Holy Communion.
As our year unfolds, please continue to take your child to
Mass faithfully every Sunday and review their religious education lessons at
home. From time to time, we’ll send information home so that you can be
informed in a timely manner of upcoming events.
First Penance
We will celebrate the Sacrament of Penance in early
February for both HTS and PSR. The Grade 2 text-book and a First Penance
booklet present the format and the prayers of the rite. More specific
information pertaining to First Penance will be sent home as the year
progresses. In the meantime, please take your children with you when to you go
to confession and have them wait in the pew until you come out. Seeing you
leave the confessional with a smile on your face will teach them a lot about
the importance of this Sacrament in the Catholic way of life, but especially
your own.
First Holy Communion
Our focus here is on the little children who are preparing
for their first encounter with Jesus Christ in His Most Precious Body and
Blood.
Our celebration of First Holy Communion will take place on
the first Saturday in May. This year it will be on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at
three Masses: 10 a.m., Noon, and 2 p.m.
As the year progresses, we will send home more specific
information about the Jesus Day Retreat, First Communion Mass preferences, the
number of guests that will be permitted, photograph and video order forms, the
dress code and practices.
Again, thank you for all you do and continue to do for the
faith formation of your child.
